Jahrd Poindexter, 30, never had a chance when gunmen burst into his apartment Tuesday morning.

“It’s like older sister/mom. I can’t even explain the pain I’m feeling right now,” Poindexter’s sister, Georgia Hawthorne said.

Hawthorne keeps going over the senseless facts in the events following an after-party for dessert to celebrate their 18-year-old sister’s birthday at Poindexter’s apartment.

The party ended in gunfire after two people broke in demanding money and started shooting.

“When I got to the home, my brother was laying in the middle of the road dead,” Hawthorne said.

Two others were killed while others were wounded.

“We need to know something. We’re begging. We’re asking that community for some type of closure,” Hawthorne said.

Poindexter, a professional chef, is survived by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. He was also a father.

“I’m struggling so hard with this. There’s a 14-year-old that doesn’t even understand what happened to his father,” Hawthorne said.

No new information has been released by police, but the grieving family needs answers.

“Whoever did this, I’m speaking directly to you. I hope you do not sleep, I hope you do not rest and I hope you do not have peace in your heart until you can admit to your crime,” Hawthorne said.

Visitation for Poindexter will be held on Saturday at the Bethlehem Baptist Church at 716 Walnut Street McKeesport.

The visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and the funeral will follow.
